There are two types of people, one who are team pancakes and one who are team waffles. Well, I am team both! Remember you can always use the same recipe for waffles and pancakes. Both are delicious and easy to make and so customizable! These waffles are the easiest waffles you’ll ever make. You just need a blender and waffle maker, so let’s start cooking our healthy banana oatmeal waffles!

Ingredients in banana oatmeal waffles

  • Bananas: you want the bananas to be ripe, meaning they need to have brown spots on them! If they are not ripe, then they won’t be sweet and we need the sweetness from bananas since we are not adding any sugar to our waffles.
  • Eggs: you’ll need two.
  • Oats: rolled oats!
  • Milk: I’m using unsweetened almond milk, but any milk will work.
  • Baking powder: makes the waffle fluffy!
  • Vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg: adds flavor!
  • Toppings: I added peanut butter, blackberries, hemp seeds, and maple syrup.

Time to make the waffles

  1. Add all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth!
  2. You need to let the batter sit, since we’re using oats.
  3. Grab your waffle iron and preheat and start cooking! Each waffle maker is different, so follow the instructions of your waffle. Usually they cook in 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stack the waffles and top them with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

How to customize this recipe

You can always change the toppings! Add peanut butter or almond butter for extra protein. Fruits are usually a must for me for waffles and/or pancakes. You can even add protein or collagen powder to the recipe, just remember you’ll need to add extra milk so the batter won’t be too thick. For extra sweetness, maple syrup or honey are always a good option. Lastly, I add hemp seeds, but chia seeds will be great as well!

I also have a pancakes recipes, which I think you might like!
