Gluten-free and dairy-free healthy avocado brownies. They are fudgy, soft, chewy, and full of deliciousness!
Avocado is my new favorite fruit to bake with, and yes avocado is a fruit! The texture of avocado is smooth and velvety and perfect for this recipe. Avocado can also replace the use of butter in baking and this is great since it’s full of healthy fats.
Ingredients To Make Healthy Avocado Brownies
- Avocado- you only need one avocado. You don’t want the avocado to be too ripened and brown. Avocado needs to be soft and green!
- Eggs- 3 large eggs, they will add extra protein to this recipe.
- Honey- I used honey, but you can use maple syrup.
- Apple sauce- this adds more moisture to the brownies.
- Almond extract- I used almond extract, but you can substitute this for vanilla extract if you would like!
- Almond flour- this flour makes this recipe gluten-free. You can use all-purpose flour, but the ratio will not be 1:1, since baking with almond flour is different than baking with all-purpose flour.
- Cocoa powder- use a good quality cocoa powder.
- Baking soda and baking powder- they will add some fluff and height to the brownies.
- Chocolate chips- I used white and semi-sweet chocolate chips, but dark chocolate chips will work great as well.
How To Make The Brownies
- Add the avocado to a food processor and process until it’s smooth and there are no chunks.
- In a medium size bowl, whisk the eggs until they are light and fluffy.
- Add honey, apple sauce, and almond extract to the eggs and whisk until everything is well combined.
- Next, add the avocado to the wet ingredients and mix.
- Lastly add the dry ingredients: almond flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and baking powder to the wet ingredients and mix until well combined, but don’t over-mix.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
- Let it to completely cool before cutting and enjoying!
- A scoop of vanilla ice cream would top off this delicious brownie!
If you wanted to, you could add all of the ingredients to the food processor as well! One less bowl to wash!
