Ingredients for dark chocolate walnut cookies

  • Unsalted Butter: you’ll brown the butter which is the base of this recipe.
  • Brown Sugar: I’m using all brown sugar, but you can do half brown and half white sugar.
  • Eggs: you’ll need 2!
  • Vanilla Extract: because we’re baking, this is a must!
  • Flour: all purpose flour is what you need.
  • Baking Soda
  • Chocolate Chips: I’m using dark chocolate chips, to keep them a little “healthy”
  • Walnuts: to add extra crunch to the cookies!

Let’s start with browning the butter

  1. In a small sauce pan, add your butter and melt over medium heat.
  2. You’ll need to pay close attention to the butter as it melts, because we don’t want it to burn. Stirring is key to prevent burning.
  3. As the butter starts to melt it will change colors and that’s when you want to remove it from the heat. Your butter will be slightly brown and release nutty scent.
  4. Set the pan to the side and let it cool or transfer to a bowl to fasten the process of cooling.

Now it’s time to make our cookies

  1. Line a baking pan with parchment paper or baking mats and set aside. To a bowl add the melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla to a bowl and whisk until well combined.
  2. Add baking soda to flour and mix and transfer to the wet ingredients and mix the mixture, but DO NOT OVER MIX!
  3. Add the chocolate chips and walnuts and fold the batter until well combined.
  4. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours!
  5. Once the dough has chilled, use an ice cream scoop and scoop out mixture and roll into balls and place on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-11 minutes or until cookies are slightly golden. Don’t over bake them, because we want them to be soft and they’ll also continue baking once removed from the oven.
